RE: hot water mixing

A lever handle valve has the handle perpendicular to the water line when closed.
The handle will be parallel (in line with) the water line when open.

RE: anyone use this awning clamp?

Here is an awning clamp I am considering...
Barb
According to Dometic the most common problem of the awning unfurling while driving is due to user error. For some reason people retract the awning and then unlock the mechanism. :h After retracting the awning, do NOT flip the lever on the roller tube until you wish to open the awning again.:S
If you have a newer RV which has the awning that clicks as it turns, you have a much stronger latch than the older type that is quiet. I don't know what you have. I am surprised that as a senior member you don't have a signature or profile showing your RV.
Like others have said, Velcro, bungees, or tape on the arms will do nothing to prevent the roller tube from turning and allowing the fabric to unfurl. If for peace of mind you absolutely must use something-use some method of pinning the roller tube.

NADA price guide lists my FK1900 as a 24' trailer. I do have a front kitchen (FK) though.

RE: Next time we'll drive

Amtrak is just another government subsidized money pit. If they let it fail, they will have admit that mass transit in this country is a waste.
Amtrak gets far less taxpayer money than the commercial airlines. Either way you figure it, percentage or dollars, the airlines get wayyyy bigger bucks than Amtrak.
We need alternate transportation systems in this country. Passenger rail carriers and passenger airlines are both subsidized which isn't much different than building roads and bridges. All are necessary and would be crucial in a time of war.
It sometimes seems like wasted money but these businesses must survive to insure the strength of the USA.

RE: RV antifreez test

Hmmmm, makes me wonder. When I pour the RV antifreeze into my traps it is diluted by the water that is already in them.

RE: Camper Model Designations

No standard that I know of, the individual manufacturers make it up as they go. :B BTW, the numbers don't necessarily mean the length. The numbers and letters are the model designation and might not even "mean" anything.

RE: RV Forums

Like others, I belong to a few RV forums and some RV related Yahoo egroups.
By far RV.net or its other portals are the easiest to navigate and the largest population. The other forums are very difficult to use and the posts are few and far between.
RV.net has it's share of problems, such as access being erratic at times and the moderation also being overdone and erratic at times. I think both of those issues are due to the fast growth and the huge amount of traffic. All in all though, RV.net is my first choice for RV information and conversation around the electronic campfire.

RE: Have a Favorite ATV Tire 12v Air Compressor ?

I bought a cheap 12volt air compressor at Walmart for $10. It was in a plastic case about 10"X6"X3". I smashed the plastic case and removed the actual compressor, it is the same compressor that Slime and some other companies sell. The finished product fits in the palm of your hand and is easily carried in your pocket, fanny pack, tank bag, saddlebag, or whatever. I've been using mine for years.
Here is a description and instructions on how to do it for yourself;

RE: Camping with a motorcycle.

Trust me, a Sportster is NOT a touring bike. You need to be a real hard a__ to ride one very far. Am I biased? Of course I am, see my signature and my forum name.
There are many 750 - 800cc bikes that are far more suitable than the Sportster for either two-up or solo riding. Yes, even rice burners! Maybe you would want to consider a dual sport bike rather than a touring bike. I say that because if hauling it with you camping, I assume it would only be used for day rides.
There are many great bikes out there, don't limit yourself because of preconceived notions. Of course, if you have to own a Harley, there's no hope for you. :B

RE: How can you estimate income taxes?

No one can know what their tax liability is in the future because it regularly changes. Congress and the IRS is constantly tweaking the tax code. If you owed $300, then have an extra $300 withheld. That only figures out to $5.77 per week.
I usually owe about $500 to $700 on April 15th. I like it that way, I get to turn the tables on the IRS. Usually taxpayers make interest free loans to the IRS by over withholding. I like my way better because I get the federal government to loan me money for free until April 15.

Whatever happened to "your welcome"?
More and more I have been hearing "no problem" in response to a thank you.
Hey, I never thought it was a 'problem', I was expressing appreciation!

"I could care less."
The correct statement to show disdain and lack of interest is "I couldn't care less". Think about it.

RE: No AC power

Are you plugged into a GFI at the house?
100 feet of cord is NOT a problem. The only way that a long cord could be a problem is if you had a heavy load such as cooling or heating.

RE: Oil Change

When preparing for winter storage, we always change the oil regardless of miles since the last change. We don't want to leave all the contaminents in the engine all winter.
Mike
Very important advice here! Change the oil at the end of the season together with winterizing and adding fuel stabilizer. Get those acids and contaminants out before it sits and corrodes during the off season.

RE: Gasoline fillup while not in use

With regards to aging gasoline, is there a difference between a carburetor and fuel injected?
I would have to say yes. The reason is that it will probably cost even more to service the fuel injectors when they plug up.
Even in vehicles that I use regularly, I use either Techron or Seafoam twice a year in the recommended amounts. Using the fuel injector cleaner twice a year is much cheaper than replacing clogged injectors.
